BIOGRAPHY

Alexa K. Horner is an experienced litigator and trial attorney who represents public and private employers, health plans, and other entities in complex civil litigation matters. Drawing on seven years of litigation practice, she advises and defends clients in matters involving employment, discrimination, retaliation, harassment, wrongful termination, defamation, wage and hour disputes, and other related claims under state and federal statutes. She also represents health plans and other entities in regulatory compliance matters, transactional issues, business disputes, tort matters and payor-provider litigation.

Alexa has extensive experience handling cases through all phases of litigation and arbitration, including investigations, discovery, motion practice, depositions, mediations, settlement negotiations, hearings, oral arguments and trial. Recently, Alexa and the KL team successfully secured a defense verdict for a health plan client in a $28 million jury trial. She has also prosecuted complex qui tam cases against providers accused of perpetrating fraud against health plans.

An accomplished trial lawyer, Alexa has a proven track record of fighting on behalf of clients in California courts. Her courtroom experience and strategic approach allow her to efficiently position cases for favorable resolution, whether through dispositive motion practice, negotiated settlement, or trial.

Alexa began her legal career by serving as a San Francisco Deputy Public Defender, where she represented clients accused of a wide array of felony and misdemeanor offenses from arraignment through appeal. She successfully tried numerous jury trials to verdict and achieved favorable outcomes for hundreds of clients, including dismissals and not-guilty verdicts. During her time at the Public Defender’s Office, Alexa also participated in lobbying efforts before the California State Assembly.

After transitioning to civil practice, Alexa focused her litigation skills on defending employers and other clients against employment-related and tort claims, bringing a trial-tested perspective to complex civil disputes.

Alexa received her J.D. from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles in 2018. While in law school, she served as the Executive Editor of the International & Comparative Law Review, overseeing publication and managing law review staff. She also participated in Loyola Law School’s Project for the Innocent, representing wrongfully convicted individuals in post-conviction proceedings, including contributing to the exoneration of a client who wrongfully served 32 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. In addition, Alexa clerked for a Supervising Judge of Los Angeles County Superior Court.
